Tristan invented a new card game last night while we were sitting around the fire. Based off of the classic game of War, it adds a hand to each player, allows for more than 2 players, and is just doggon good times!

I created a card game, it’s really fun, you should try it out sometime. It’s called Civil War, somewhat like war, but not completely. My dad wrote down the rules last night while we were playing.

Civil War

The game operates along the same principal as the classic game War, but the player has a hand and is able to control what card they place, therefore adding a dimension of skill to an otherwise game of luck.

Two or more players.

Divide cards evenly and place them face down in a stack. This is called the straight deck.

Each player takes 5 cards from top of straight deck and may look at them.

Each player chooses a card from their hand and places it face down on the table.

Highest card takes all.

In case of War (where two or more players put down the same value card), warring players place remainder of their hand down & take top card off deck.

Highest card takes all.

If a Joker is played, it automatically initiates war.

If joker is played last, choose 4 cards from straight pile to place down on the table and 5th card is war card.

In the event of double War, the winner of the 2nd round of War wins the game.

If one player doesn’t have enough cards at any time, they lose.

First player to have all cards wins.

Tristan made himself a paper cell phone today and spent the day talking to his "friends" from wherever in the world they call him. Here's a transcript of one of those conversations.

Tristan made himself a mock RAZR cell phone using paper, markers and staples, all part of the new art kit Olivia got him for Yule. The following is a conversation he just had on said phone:

Hey, I just wanted to talk to you.

pauses while the person on the other line speaks

I wanted to see if you wanted to meet up at the park tomorrow. If you did, that would be cool.

pauses

Okay. I’ll probably be there from 10 to 12. Well, I might be there at 1 if anyone shows up, but I definitely won’t be there before 10. So I’ll hope to see you there.

hangs up, takes another call

Hey, just calling you back. I won’t be off much, much longer. I just have a couple of meetings tomorrow and then I’ll be off for…maybe…a month and a half…so I’ll see you then. Okay, Happy New Year, bye.

How much Tristan believes in things like Santa and the Tooth Fairy is very hard to determine for sure. On one hand, he surely knows that there are some seriously suspicious aspects to such spectacular, shall we say, lies, but on the other he's smart enough to realize that if you say you don't believe in the tooth fairy, you're basically forfeiting any money she might have given you.

Note from Dad:Today Tristan lost his first tooth, then proceeded to literally lose it, somehow, in our RV. So we told him he had to find it or he wouldn’t get the dollar for it. You know, ’cause the tooth fairy would be coming and all. So he comes up with the following idea.

Why don’t we just put pillows all over the ground in the RV and then in the morning we can just pick up the pillows and find the dollar.

Though we're not in Death Valley or anything, Tristan decides to talk about our Halloween costumes and what will happen when we eventually do get to Death Valley.

For Halloween, I’m dressing up as a ninja vampire and dad’s dressing up as a space mummy and Olivia’s dressing up as a cute German girl. My dad says that when we go to Death Valley, it’s called that because there are still vampires and dinosaurs and zombies.

Someday I want to go to Death Valley and then dad’ll know how to control space people and mummies, I’ll know how to control vampires and ninjas and Olivia will know how to control cute little German girls. Hah! Guess it’s just going to be me and dad who survive this year at Death Valley…

Um, I really had fun and I learned how to read today. And….um…I learned how to read “star”, I learned how to read “dirt”, I learned how to read…um. What else did I learn how to read?

Anyway, everyday I learn a letter. First I did the letters of my name. T-R-I-S-T-A-N.

Oh yeah! And I learned how to make pumpkin pie and how to skip stones. It was really fun and I think it’s really fun on this roadtrip!

We’re already in Texas and I really like this place. Cool, that’s all.
